Investors agree it is very important for their advisor to help them maximize their income for retirement
Clients agree that their advisor meets a rigorous set of requirements to be certified
Investors say it is very important for their advisor to help them set clear goals for retirement

The Retirement Management Advisor® (RMA®) program is an advanced certificate program and pathway to certification that focuses on building custom retirement income plans to mitigate clients' risks and to master the retirement planning advisory process, all within an increasingly regulatory environment.

Focused on outcomes, not expectations, the RMA certification provides advisors with practical tools, techniques, and methodologies. The result is a set of knowledge and skills that can satisfy clients' retirement needs. Learners may elect to complete just the online course and receive a certificate of completion, or advance through the capstone course and the final exam to receive the RMA certification.

How It works

RMA Certification Process

1 Level One: Retirement Management Online Course
Candidates complete the online course which consists of eight modules, readings, recorded lectures, a progressive case study, quizzes, and webcasts.

The online course has been approved for 25 hours of CIMA®, CIMC®, CPWA®, and CFP® continuing education credits.
2 Level Two: Retirement Management Capstone

Candidates can either attend a two-day, in-person, executive education capstone event or earn their RMA certification completely online with the new RMA Capstone On-Demand.

The capstone takes concepts from Level One, puts them in the context of timely real-world developments affecting the retirement landscape, and helps attendees master the tools to successfully address these issues with clients.

The RMA Capstone On-Demand has been approved for 15.5 hours of CE credit, including 1 hour of ethics and 2 hours of taxes, for CIMA®, CPWA®, and RMA®
certifications, and 14.5 hours of CFP® certification CE.

CE for in-person Capstone classes is typically 15 hours of CE credit for CIMA®, CPWA®, and RMA® certifications, and CFP® certification CE, pending approval.

Three RMA Capstone options are currently available:

  • RMA Capstone On-Demand
  • December 7–8, 2020 in Hollywood, FL
  • April 25-28, 2021 in Seattle, WA
3 Level Three: Retirement Management Advisor Examination

Candidates have two options for taking the exam: on-site at a Capstone event or with an online proctor.

The in-person exam at Capstone events is a paper and pen exam. The online proctored exam can be taken from any stable Internet connection that offers a webcam and microphone, through which the online proctor can observe the test-taker throughout the exam. Typically, we recommend that you test from home to avoid challenges related to corporate firewalls. Online proctors are available 24/7, for your convenience, and if you schedule with at least 72 hours notice, there's no additional charge.

The examination comprises 100 multiple-choice questions and you have three hours in which to complete it.

Most recent pass rate: 76%
